Springtime on the Farm

It’s been are rough spring this year, spring was so late in coming that pretty much all the hay in the area was used up, and a late snowstorm seemed to have triggered something that cause quite a few calves to get sick and die. We thing the worst cases are over and most calves seem to be doing better now, but it’s been hard for the those in the area who depend on the income from their calves, to have lost so many calves.

But the other animals are doing well, and here are some pictures from our farm.

Matt’s cow Coconut had a calf a couple of days ago. Matt bought Coconut from Nate a couple of years ago and has been waiting and waiting for this calf! It’s exciting for him to have his first calf. (It’s a bull.)

 

Grace the farm girl moving fence for her goats.

She has been putting in lots of hours helping on the farm this spring.

This is a mama with her tiny black lamb.

And the meat birds, one kind of animal on this farm that I will not use the word “cute” to describe… Notice that I spared you a close up picture!  I helped move them out into the movable a coop a few days ago and we counted them – there are 95… 

Laura bought 6 more ducklings this spring. (This is a picture she took.)

A few of Nate’s 15 little piglets, (this picture is a couple weeks old,  they are growing fast…and are quite a bit bigger than this now.)

And finally a picture of my good ol’ donkeys..  who are still very friendly and love attention.

Yep, it’s pretty much like Old MacDonald’s farm around here, but we think diversity is a good thing!
